What is Tuina or Tui Na Massage?

Tuina (or Tui Na) is a form of traditional Chinese bodywork and therapeutic massage. It is one of the oldest known forms of massage in China and has been practiced for over 2,000 years. Tuina combines various manual techniques, such as kneading, rolling, pressing, and stretching, to promote healing, relaxation, and balance within the body.

Tuina massage targets specific points and energy meridians in the body, similar to acupuncture, but without the use of needles. The practitioner applies pressure and manipulates the soft tissues and muscles to stimulate energy flow and address imbalances in the body. Tuina is often used to address musculoskeletal issues, promote circulation, alleviate pain, and improve overall well-being.

During a Tuina session, the practitioner may use their hands, fingers, palms, elbows, or even certain tools to apply pressure and perform the massage techniques. The specific techniques and sequences employed vary depending on the individual’s needs and the practitioner’s training and expertise.
