Myo Therapy for Horses

Myotherapy, or myofascial therapy, for horses is a type of manual therapy focused on relieving pain and improving physical function by addressing dysfunctions within the muscles and fascia. This therapy targets “trigger points” or areas of muscle tightness that may develop from factors such as overuse, injury, or stress, which are common in performance horses or those with intense workloads.

By using techniques such as massage, stretching, and targeted pressure, equine myotherapy aims to release muscle tension, restore range of motion, and reduce pain. The therapy can enhance circulation, decrease inflammation, and assist the horse’s body in recovery and pain management.

In addition to hands-on techniques, myotherapy can include movement exercises to improve flexibility and strengthen muscles, enhancing overall physical resilience. This approach is holistic, recognizing that releasing tension in one area of the body can benefit the horse’s entire musculoskeletal system by alleviating compensatory strain in other regions. This comprehensive view of interconnected muscles and fascia highlights the importance of balanced movement and functional health in equine care, making myotherapy a valuable tool in promoting wellness and performance in horses.
